Great beer but loud. I expect some noise in a brewery but it was a bit more than I’d hoped. Perhaps it was just the particular people that happened to be there tonight, yelling and being rowdy, but it was less laid-back than I’d hoped.
Fantastic beers, especially some of their seasonal/experimental ones. The new patio feels like a real German Biergarten and the bicycle ambience inside is perfect and quirky. A great place to spend and afternoon or evening, or to just stop in for pint.
We're from the Detroit area and have been waiting to visit Blackrocks for a very long time. They did not disappoint. Their beer was excellent and the outdoor seating was great. Their patio was not dog friendly which is disappointing a bit, but I was able to park directly in front of the building and keep the car running and an eye on my dogs so it worked out.
As a beer snob I'm consistently impressed with Blackrocks offerings. Grand Rabbits is a favorite. When I visited the brewery I had several beers not distributed that lived up to my expectations. Coconut Brown with coffee and a NE style IPA stood out. Cute taproom with outdoor seating. Bring your own food (I suggest Thai House).
I knew I liked the coconut porter after having it at Lagniappe a few years ago, but I hadn't ever tried any others. Now I'm not a huge beer gal, but I tried most of the beers here (you can get a tasting board!) and loved every. single. one. I never leave Marquette without a 6 pack of that coconut porter now! Great location and ambience too. Not a lot of seating but we had a great time!
