If you are visiting the UP, just skipped over Escanaba and head to Marquette. Marquette has a lot more places shop and there are actually things for kids to do. Picnic Rocks Park is beautidul. The park is a great place to go to relax after a long day.
A great place to enjoy Lady Superior any time of day. Clean, seasonal restroom facilities & picnic/grilling spots. Usually quieter than McCarty's Cove. Lotsa noise from seagull island, but at least it isn't bad music.

Was there for the Outback Art show. Wonderful!
My kids love this park! My kids are 5 and under, but they love climbing on the tires, and slide, and the animals that rock. I love the view and the benches/picnic areas nearby.
