Finally stopped in after being new to the area and informed of the great food. This is average, if that, Italian restaurant. The salad was well dressed and garlic bead is good. Lasagna noodles were way over cooked, along with tasteless spaghetti, sauce was bland and standard, Italian sauasage was so dry and doused with meat sauce. Meatballs were ok. We would not try again or recommend to anyone. Just not our cup of tea.
On first observation, the decor is unchanged, but the place looked unkept and dirty (Nasty carpeting with crumbs everywhere, tables full of dishes, filthy walls, dusty lights, etc. There was no line to get in, but we waited about ten minutes before anyone would look at us to say, “Someone will be with you shortly.” After another 5 minutes we were abruptly sat...and waited another 5 minutes before a drink order was taken.
This place was absolutely appalling. From the tacky and cheap decor to the moody waitress who would roll their eyes. My boyfriend and I ordered a large portion of gnocchi to share, as we weren’t super hungry. Thankfully the portion was pretty small because the gnocchi tasted potato tears and the watered down tomato sauce had the texture and taste of through up. It wasn’t far of how it looked either. This might be up to the standards of other restaurants in Marquette, but please don’t eat here if you’re just visiting. This is why there are such split opinions on this restaurant. Don’t make the mistake we made.
Let me preface my review by saying this was one of our family’s favorites in the past. We were told the restaurant was under new ownership. Assuming the new owners would maintain the high standards of their predecessors, we ventured in looking forward to another great experience.
A bit pricey but awesome food and service

The cut of meat was tough and grossly. It was supposed to be medium rare, it was well done and dry. The salads are tiny portions and you can taste the plastic from the lettuce bags. The dressing was bland and runny. Their famous garlic bread is now dry and bland. And the pasta sauce...the best was to describe is is to say it’s like a metal can of tomato soup, add a bag of sugar, put three specks of meat in it, dump in pig grease liberally, pour over hard spaghetti noodles.
They may have been short staffed this particular evening. I am not sure. This wasn’t the deal breaker for me. It was how absolutely horrendous the food was! My husband and I ordered our usual: Steak with salad and garlic bread. I ordered spaghetti with meat sauce.
When presenting the issues, the manager took the, “It’s not us it’s you!” approach and was extremely defensive. It was the last time for us unless they clean up their act.
The Villa is a long time staple of the Marquette community. Has been one of my favorites as long as I can remember. If you want a good Italian meal, the Villa is about as good as it gets.
